Liposuction for men

Image isn't everything. But, in today's hectic, competitive environment, it can make a big difference. Studies have shown that the male cosmetic surgery trend is closely tied to career advancement. In a recent survey on the importance of appearance and job success, 84% of men believed physical attractiveness was important for power and success on the job, and 32% of men agreed that if they had a more youthful appearance, it would positively impact their job success.

ou may have tried to diet and exercise on a regular basis, only to find that those "love handles," fatty breasts, belly, and that fatty pouch under your chin just won't go away. Your reasons for choosing to have liposuction may be as simple as just wanting to look better at the beach or on the job. While liposuction is not a replacement for a healthy lifestyle, it can make you look and feel better.

What is tumescent liposuction?
Tumescent liposuction is the infusion of large volumes of saline solution, local anesthesia, and adrenaline into the fatty area being treated. This causes swelling and enables your surgeon to maneuver a small instrument, called a cannula, superficially under the skin. Your surgeon gently moves it around under your skin, suctioning away unwanted fatty deposits. The result is a resculpting of bulging areas into more attractive contours.

The procedure is meant for body contouring and is not a treatment for obesity.

How will my skin look after surgery?
LiposuctionDimples, ripples and stretch marks remain unchanged following liposuction. The changes following liposuction are similar to what you would expect if you could lose an equal amount of localized fat through diet and exercise alone. The use of smaller cannulas allows the fibrous connections between your skin and body to remain. These connections will contract over time. As a result, excessive skin folds are so rare that many patients avoid the necessity for surgical skin removal by having excellent results with liposuction alone.
What will my recovery be like?
One or two small stitches close the tiny incisions. You will wear a snug elastic dressing, girdle or body stocking over the treated area for the next several weeks. You may go home after the procedure and rest for at least 24 hours, after which you may gradually increase your activity as tolerated. After 2 or 3 days you may resume non-strenuous activities.

Who are the best  candidates?
LiposuctionThe best candidates for liposuction are men who:
  • Have firm, elastic skin and are in good health.
  • Have tried diet, exercise and weight loss programs.
  • Have fat deposits disproportionate to the rest of their  bodies.
  • Have realistic expectations and are only slightly overweight.
  • Don't expect liposuction to change their lives dramatically.

Which areas can be treated by liposuction?

The most frequent areas treated by liposuction in men are:
  . the "love handles"
  . breasts
  . abdomen
  . neckline
Is the fat reduction permanent?
Yes! It seems that after puberty we do not create new fat cells. When you gain weight, you expand the fat cells that you have. Liposuction permanently removes fat cells to improve your body's contour. Should you gain weight after your liposuction procedure, it goes to the fat cells that remain in your body. The localized fatty deposits that existed prior to liposuction can no longer balloon up out of proportion to the surrounding areas.

Most likely, one procedure will be sufficient. however some patients require a fine-tunning procedure at a future date.
